We first met Casey and Lionel at the shop a little over a year ago, they had both just relocated from their home island of Oahu to Long Beach. We got to chatting about how and why they ended up in Long Beach. You get a very humble and adventure sense from this young couple that has been together since they started dating when they were 16 years old. They are both passionate about music, photography and not staying in one place for to long. These two have one of the most amazing perspective's on photography in capturing each other in there elements. We asked if they would shoot one of their trips for Port using their own direction and sensibilities -- bellow is a photo essay from Casey and Lionel
Lionel: The trip to Yosemite was hectic. in a good way. We've wanted to go for such a long time but just never had the opportunity or the motivation to make the long drive. I think any drive is long when you’re from an island that takes an hour to drive around. We only stayed for 24 hours but it was never a dull moment. There aren’t big enough words to describe the park. Magnificent? From the swimming holes, wildlife, dramatic landscapes and crisp air—we were in awe.
WE HAD AN AMAZING OPPORTUNITY TO SHOWCASE THE NEW CLEATS UP CLUB WITH ACTOR CHAUNCEY LEOPARDI A.K.A SQUINTS FROM THE MOVIE " THE SANDLOT". HE IS A VERY DOWN TO EARTH GUY AND WAS PROUD TO DRESS THE PART OF HIS YOUNG TEENAGE ROLL FOR THE SHOOT. THE MOVIE HOLDS A SPECIAL PLACE IN OUR HEART ALONG WITH CAPTURING AN EPIC VERSION OF AMERICAN NOSTALGIA.
The Beaumont style was chosen for the collaboration for its classic circular unisex frame. It features the standard three stripe – past, present, and future side metal detail, and a W – L trim at the temple tips. A collaborative effort between the four like minded brands and boutiques Iron & Resin, Aloha Sunday, Oakland Surf Club and Port that all share a few common interests. The collection was forged from sharing the similar passions in clothing and culture along with their combined affinity and appreciation for the California Coastline. Each entity was responsible for choosing the icon they saw fit for their localized coastline and then the combined elements were created into a singular graphic print to be shared on a few garments and accessories..
The capsule consists of a traditional Hawaiian style button up with combined print graphic,18”matching boardshort, 4 singular printed graphic tees, a custom knit 100% wool blanket along with a bucket hat and exclusive cap with leather detail from Ampal Creative. To add to this, the assortment is entirely manufactured by local vendors along the California coast.

We are heading West to the far East this month for our in store pop up with Tortoise store of Osaka Japan. We have put together a range of curated and crafted products specifically for the event which kicks off the Golden week Holiday in Japan.
With the help of our counterparts from Tortoise store we had a chance to come up with some unique prints to showcase. We had a unique opportunity to work with an extended family member from Tortoise and his company Chochin Kawai.
Chochin meaning "Paper Lantern" and "Kawai" the family, a family run company that has been in business for over 150 years in the paper lantern making business.
Sixth generation craftsman pictured bellow are Kiyoshi Kawai , and right side is his young brother Hiroshi Kawai.
Along with their dedication to this craft their steady hands and attention to details are overwhelming. We were fortunate enough to have a a unique graphic produced from the hand of Kiyoshi witch we later turned into a printed graphic for a limited tee.
Follow the progress from the dedicated tumblr http://portlbc-popup-osaka.tumblr.com/
We will also be launching a project with P01 from Japan and a few small specialty items. Details to follow.
